Though Samuel Wood Gaylor painted—and partied—alongside the most eminent American artists of the early twentieth century, his art and his life have been largely forgotten. Fleming Curator Andrea Rosen shares new discoveries about Gaylor, including his role in elaborate artists’ costume balls, his collecting of folk art, and his connections to the Fleming collection. She’ll also explore what we don’t know about Gaylor, such as what inspired his intentionally naïve style of painting.
