Young Writers Project (YWP) and Muslim Girls Making Change (MGMC) are proud to present Voices for Change, a youth-led conference celebrating identity and voice in Vermont. The event is dedicated to appreciating the Muslim faith, living as a person of color and the growing movement for teens to speak out and take action on issues of the day.

The conference will open with a performance by MGMC, Vermont’s award-winning slam poets, who helped organize the event with other student leaders and YWP. MGMC, who got their start at a YWP slam in 2015 and have been mentored by YWP coaches, were recently awarded the 2018 National Education Association SuAnne Big Crow Memorial Award for promoting human and civil rights, and the Vermont Peace & Justice Center Ed Everts Social Justice Activist Award.

This event is made possible by funding from the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art, the Amy E. Tarrant Foundation, the Bay & Paul Foundations, Physician’s Computer Co., and other generous donors.

Partners include VT NEA, Peace & Justice Center, Vermont Adult Learning, Burlington CEDO, My Brother’s Keeper and more.
