Born in 1959, Thomas Quasthoff was a thalidomide baby. Despite numerous obstacles, his parents enabled him to take voice lessons starting at an early age. Along with classical music, the bass-baritone has sung soul and jazz pieces during his nearly 40-year career. In 2012, the three-time Grammy winner decided to give up performing major concerts due to health reasons.
