The original production of the classic Hollywood love story about two movie stars who cross paths, one on the way up and the other on the way down. The story is so enduring that it has been remade twice, the second time in 1954 with Judy Garland and again in 1974 with Barbara Streisand. This one is the best, with Janet Gaynor as small town girl, Esther Blodgett, who dreams of making it big in Hollywood and does, thanks to Norman Maine (Fredric March) who discovers her. He makes her a star, then marries her only to watch her eclipse him in her rise to stardom. Above all this is a enduring love story, for Esther really loves Norman, in spite of his drunken behavior.
