Elise Guyette of the Vermont Alliance for the Social Studies and producer the Vermont Social Studies Project joins RETN's Scott Campitelli to look at the latest in strategies and approaches for teaching social sciences in K-12 schools. The conversation will address the Vermont Department of Education having a Social Studies Consultant in Montpelier for the fist time in 17 years. Guyette will also talk about opportunities for educators to learn more about professional development and student learning opportunities, including the Flow of History project; the Vermont Social Studies Project; and 2006 summer opportunities with Fort Ticonderoga, Institute of History, Archaeology, and Education, Lake Champlain Maritime Museum, Community Works, and the Jamestown 400th anniversary web site. Guyette will also briefly touch on possibilities around the 400th anniversary, coming up in 2009, of Samuel de Champlain's arrival on Lake Champlain.
