(1) In retribution for siding with the Persians in 492 BC, the wealthy Greek island of Paros suffered the loss of its unique sanctuary to Apollo and Artemis.  This is the story of ancient Paros and the secrets archaeologists are slowly uncovering after 2500 years.  (2) Diane de Poitiers, a French noblewoman and mistress of Henry II of France, tried to use gold to preserve her looks.  A French research team investigated her Diane’s remains and discovered that the gold and other minerals she used to preserve her youth were actually slowly poisoning her.
