Vermont artist Diane Gabriel reflects on her body of artwork from childhood to adulthood.

Diane Gabriel was born and raised in New York City.  Classically trained, she attended The Arts Students League in the late 1950s, and graduated from Manhattan's High School Of Music and Art in the mid-60s.  Moving to Vermont in 1970, she received her undergraduate degree from Goddard College.  Except for brief times, traveling and a residency at The Maine Photographic Workshops, she has lived, worked and taught in Vermont since that time.

Gabriel began showing work nationally in 1975.  Concurrently she was one of the pioneers of the Artist in The Schools program.  She has twice been awarded Individual Artist Grants from the Vermont Arts Council, as well as generous fellowships from The Vermont Studio Center.  In 2002 Gabriel became the inaugural recipient of The Barbara Smail Award conferred by Burlington City Arts.  Most recently, she has been one of the founding members of 215 College Gallery. Her work is held in both private and public collections.

Diane lives with her husband and dog in Burlington, Vermont.
