Paul Mallen (Anton Walbrook) is the consummate aristocrat, oozing Victorian charm to his new neighbors at 12 Pimlico Square, Westminster, London, while driving his beautiful wife insane by false accusations and public humiliations. Rough (Frank Pettingell), an ex-policeman, however, has a good memory and recognizes him not as the well-to-do European, but as murder suspect Louie Bauer. This excellent psychological thriller, directed by the masterful Thorold Dickenson, pits the cunning Mallen against the dogged detective work of Rough, who races against time to save Bella Mallen from being committed by her evil husband, who fears she will uncover his true identity.
