A discussion about foreign language instruction and international education in K-12 public schools in Vermont, with Lisa Cox of the Vermont State Board of Education, and Juefei Wang, Director of the University of Vermont Asian Studies Outreach Program. Scott Campitelli of RETN talks to Cox and Wang about reasons for foreign language and international education in elementary, middle and high schools. The conversation addresses the value of international education on language, culture, history, and people, as well as the benefits for Vermont and the United States from integrating languages and international education into K-12 curriculum. Initiatives in Vermont are supported in part by the work of the Governor's Council on International Education, which convened by appointment of Governor Jim Douglas from February through September 2004. The council issued its report and recommendations titled "International Education Benefits Vermont's Children" on October 1, 2005.
