Eyes on the Land: Susan Abbott
Susan Abbott’s oil and watercolor paintings examine the specifics and mood of place, especially the New England working landscape. She is a participating artist in the Eyes on the Land exhibit, organized in partnership with Shelburne Museum and the Vermont Land Trust, thirteen Vermont artists and the owners of conserved Vermont lands.
ARTIST STATEMENT
"I discovered from my visits [to the Johnson Farm in Canaan, Vermont] that I was most attracted to the "in between" areas where wetland environment meets farmland. I focused my paintings on the relationship of the natural to the working landscape, especially the contrast between the curving forms and subtle colors of the wetlands, and the more geometric shapes and brighter colors of the tilled corn and hay fields.."
