This 6th lecture in the series, by Dr. Paul Searls, UVM History, focuses on Vermont at the time of Calvin Coolidge from his birth in the mid 1800s through his life as president of the United States in the 1920s. Why Coolidge matters is because this era is a means to understanding Vermont, both by the way Vermonters want to understand their state and the ways the rest of the country want to see Vermont. He talks about the "Uphill Vermont" and the "Downhill Vermont." It becomes an interesting historical perspective.
