“O, Freedom” celebrates the genre of the African-American spiritual and spiritual-inspired music commemorating the 60th anniversary of the civil rights march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama in March 1965. The program includes works by Jim Papoulis, Rollo Dilworth, and Moses Hogan, as well as arrangements of traditional South African freedom songs.  VYO Chorus members close out the season with Brahms’ Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny), Op. 54 occasionally referred to as his Little Requiem. This work is a choral setting of a poem written by Friedrich Hölderlin.
