Poems are often associated with introspection. But Major Jackson, M.F.A., poet and Richard Dennis Green & Gold Professor of English, reminds us that great poems can also serve as a mirror, reflecting our times and documenting history. Jackson shares an excerpt from his poem, “Song as Abridged Thesis of George Perkins Marsh’s Man and Nature,” written in honor of the National Park Service’s 100th birthday and inspired by one of our earliest environmentalists.
