Six Vermont Artists
These programs were produced by the Vermont Arts Council in conjunction with the 2009 Big Read initiative. Fahrenheit 451 - the selected title for 2009 - exemplifies how Ray Bradbury used his art form to critique what he saw as an increasingly dysfunctional American society. The Arts Council used this book as a platform for statewide discussions about how Bradbury and other artists have used their work as social commentary.
These short pieces not only provide a snapshot of six different and diverse Vermont artists, but teach us about the role artists play in bringing attention to social and political issues, inspiring people to think about those issues and in some cases motivate change.
