Hunger and Malnutrition in Young Children
Early childhood malnutrition, resulting from a lack of sufficient food or because of a chronic shortage of key nutrients in the foods consumed, can impact a child’s growth and development as well as exacerbate other health conditions. Unaddressed or without successful intervention, it may result in a child’s “failing to thrive” (FTT) with serious and even life-threatening health consequences.
This series brings together early childhood providers who provide training in how to identify and refer children ages 0 – 6 who are experiencing malnutrition and food insecurity to appropriate community resources.
