Program Description:
In 1792, Vermont had eight electoral votes—two each for its first four electors. In 2008, 216 years later, as the nation’s 49th state in population size, we now only have three electoral votes, having lost our fourth vote following the 1930 Census. But to the national media, small states don’t matter. Tell that to former VP Al Gore who lost the White House in 2000 by three votes—271 to 268—to Texas Gov. George W. Bush. What difference has Vermont made in American political history and will it ever influence national politics again?
