Program Description:

According to the ancient text The Rites of Chou, "Combining the right time, the right weather, good materials and skillful workmanship is the basis for the production of good things." The craftsmen of Taiwan have taken this lesson to heart. They bring together just this combination of time, weather and materials to create a beautiful world of handicraft. They take nature as their master and life as their material, discern the meaning of life through simple living, and produce works that are practical and beautiful. Their art is an expression of the spirit, an extension of memory, and an expansion of tradition. Contemporary Taiwanese handicrafts combine culture, production and creativity. The techniques of commercial marketing and labeling are used to extend the exposure of Taiwanese crafts in a way that realizes the dictum "think globally, act locally." They continue to develop their creativity, revitalizing traditional crafts. They are the creators of a new era for handicrafts in Taiwan.
