VT: fiction's fertile ground, VT writers, VT poets, PEN writersProgram Description:
What is it in the water, the air, or even the hardscrabble soil of Northern New England, that makes it such fertile earth for fiction and poetry? Why is it that the landscape and idiosyncrasies of this area capture so many imaginations of people from around the country? Who better to answer this question, than a group of Vermont and New Hampshire writers who have successfully planted their work in this ground and reaped national recognition for it? Acclaimed novelists Jodi Picoult and Philip Baruth join award-winning children's author Katherine Paterson, and renowned poet/playwright/author David Budbill for an evening panel discussion at the Billings Campus Center Theater at the University of Vermont in Burlington.
