Program Description:

This presentation examines the long-term impacts of European colonialism on the Indigenous peoples of the Southern Frontier, focusing specifically on the nature of Muskogee Creek houses and community planning. Changes in both domestic architecture and the spatial patterning of communities are shown to be intimately related to long-term Native American interactions with Europeans. Ultimately, these changes are suggested to represent transitions in local social relations and political economies.
