Watch as Aaron York, a member of the Abenaki Nation, works on an 18-foot birch bark canoe which he created in Summer 2007 as an artist in residence at the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum in Vergennes, VT. Learn about some of the traditional materials, tool and techniques used to create the canoe, a replica of the type used by Samuel de Champlain in his exploration of the Lake in 1609.
