Program Description:
Krishna is one of the most widely-known avatars (incarnations) of Vishnu in Indian mythology. There are many stories of Krishna including tales of his amorous acts with Radha, his story of valor and wisdom in the battles with Kamsa, and his great preachings to Arjuna in the Bhagvad-Gita.These stories are presented through music and dances that illustrate various phases and aspects of Krishna such as a child, young lover, protector of the oppressed, wise teacher and guru. The stories reinforce the central concept of the Hindu religion – the belief in the ultimate reality called Brahman (universal soul) and its identification with the Atman (individual soul). The concert will help illustrate Krishna’s place in Hindu mythology.
