Program Description:
In his seventy-third episode of Expedition New England, Scott Tucker joins “Friends of Hammonasset” on a frigid day in January at the third annual “Free Willy” event where a group of one hundred volunteers endure the elements and work to remove invasive plants like Oriental Bittersweet, Japanese Barberry, and Autumn Olive from the island. With special guidance from the dedicated people like John Picard, Shannon Schiesser, Ranger Russ Miller Patrick Cumin and Sandy Breslin, Scott discovers why it is imperative to protect our native flora from these invaders. Additionally, Scott gives us a rare close up encounter with Red Shouldered Hawk, a Barred Owl and a Screech Owl that’s to the volunteers from “A place called Hope” of Killingworth, CT
