Program Description:
Joseph-Andre Senecal explains how today Franco-Vermonters make up the largest ethnic group in the state, yet much of their history has been forgotten. The INFA Project seeks to change this by documenting and preserving the Franco-American heritage of New England and New York. It has already uncovered lost newspapers published in French, valuable caches of manuscripts, and a rich iconography. The trove of documents awaits social and cultural historians who can utilize these newly discovered resources as they continue to reexamine the history of Vermont.
