Program Description:

In this presentation Center for Rural Studies Director and founder Frederick Schmidt reports on survey efforts at UVM and similar activities on campuses elsewhere in the country. He also highlights findings from a decade of "Vermonter" polls, with special emphasis on policy and political findings. Graduate Assistant David Connor shares analysis regarding Vermonters' knowledge about rBST and the mandatory rBST labeling law. UVM Extension Service Evaluation Officer Kevin Wiberg and Center staffmember Katya Podsiadlo reports on Vermonters' perceptions of the state's environmental quality and whether those perceptions have changed over the last decade. Center for Research Assistant Professor James Cruise discusses Vermonters' attitudes towards growth and decision making, including the "Wal-mart" style of development, and addresses whether differences are found between rural and urban residents. Center staffmember Michael Hathaway looks at Vermonters' reported computer use and makes comparisons with national averages.
