Program Description:
This program's full title is: Ecotourism & Watchable Wildlife in Island Pond after the Champion Land Sale: A Sustainable Rural Community Development Project with a Focus on Natural Resources . With funding from the J. W. McConnell Family Foundation, UVM Professor Thomas Hudspeth engaged students in developing materials to show tourists what there is to see and do in Island Pond and to tell the community's story. The project also involved preparing a master plan to guide the interpretation of Island Pond's natural history and cultural heritage resources, and to implement as much of that plan as finances allowed. This seminar provides an overview of the project's development, explores some of the results to date, and discusses the implications of the proposed sale by Champion International Corporation of 133,000 acres in the Island Pond vicinity.
