Program Description:

Find out how biofilms - communities of bacterial and fungal cells that are attached to surfaces - gain access to medical devices such as catheters and I.V. (intravenous) lines. Determine why these organisms, which cause two-thirds of all Hospital-Acquired Infections, are highly-resistant to antibiotic treatment and what therapies scientists are developing for combating these deadly and costly invaders.
